If you have old files you need to recover, do not rely on an unstable 2021 download. Instead:
Use InDesign CS6 or earlier: These versions had the best "PageMaker Plug-in" for conversions.
PDF Conversion: If you just need the content, try finding an online file converter to turn the .pmd into a PDF.
Virtual Machines: If you absolutely must run the software, do so inside a Virtual Machine (like VirtualBox) running Windows XP to isolate it from your main system.
