A scavenger girl (Lina), wiry and sunburnt, approaches the mech, noticing the emblem of Animo Pron—an iris-like sigil—etched into the hull. She pries a panel open and finds a small, living creature curled in the engine bay: a newborn sunling—part-beast, part-bioluminescent ember—breathing heat like a tiny furnace.

The Herd attacks en masse. V8, powered by the sunling’s core, transforms its defensive lattice into radiant, non-lethal deterrents that mimic solar flares—blinding and disorienting predators without killing them. Lina coordinates movements using improvised signals. The battle is a tense choreography of light, sand, and shifting silhouettes. One by one, predators retreat, confused by the unnatural daylight.
