Before we discuss how the key works, we must understand what you are unlocking.
Fujitsu’s iRMC is an embedded management chip (similar to Dell’s iDRAC or HP’s iLO). Every PRIMERGY server ships with iRMC S3 or S5 (depending on generation). This provides basic functionality out of the box:
The Core Problem: Without a license key, the iRMC is a basic watchdog. With a key, it becomes a full Lights-Out Management system. The key tells the firmware to flip the software switch from "View Mode" to "Full Control Mode."
Fujitsu servers (PRIMERGY and PRIMEQUEST) come with an integrated Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) called iRMC. The standard functionality (iRMC S2, S3, S4, or S5 depending on the server generation) is free and allows for basic remote access, power control, and hardware monitoring.
However, advanced features require a License Key. This is a software-based upgrade; no hardware installation is required.
