A valid Horizon 8 license key is typically a 25-character alphanumeric string, grouped in 5-character blocks (e.g., ABCDE-12345-FGHIJ-67890-KLMNO). However, unlike Windows or simple software keys, a Horizon license is tied to:

Crucial Clarification: You cannot “generate” a Horizon 8 license key from within the product. Keys are provisioned exclusively by VMware or its authorized partners via VMware Customer Connect.

For large environments, do not store the license locally on each Connection Server. Use a Group License Key (GLK) or a dedicated license server so that if you load-balance Connection Servers, the license state remains consistent.

If you want to move from Horizon Standard to Enterprise, you typically enter a new license key that represents the upgrade, or you add a license key file provided by VMware support to your portal. You do not "upgrade" the key inside the console; you replace it with the higher-tier key.
