Plex is great, but it requires a server. With the iOS Playit Cast Plugin, you can load a video file from your iCloud Drive or a connected USB-C drive (iPad) and cast it directly to the living room TV without setting up a media server. It is peer-to-peer casting.
This is the "magic" of the plugin. iOS records video in HEVC (H.265) and ProRes. Many older TVs do not support these codecs. The Playit Cast Plugin performs on-the-fly transcoding on your iOS device (or a paired server) to convert the stream into H.264 or VP8, which is universally accepted. Without this plugin, your TV would likely display a "Format Not Supported" error.
