Released in 2015 and directed by Wilson Yip, Ip Man 3 took the franchise beyond simple revenge narratives. Unlike the previous films focusing on the Japanese occupation or British colonialism, Ip Man 3 focuses on family. The subplot where Ip Man must care for his terminally ill wife, Cheung Wing-sing (Lynn Hung), while managing his duties as a master is devastatingly beautiful. The final fight—not against Tyson, but a philosophical duel against Cheung Tin-chi—reminds audiences that true martial arts are about humility and respect.
