The rhythmic sound of the Pung echoed faintly from the nearby Mandap, but inside the quiet library of Imphal, Lanleiba was focused only on the scribbled notes in his leather-bound journal. He was a collector of moments—the way the morning mist clung to the Loktak Lake and the unspoken glances exchanged during Thabal Chongba.
His latest project, titled “Eina Eigi” (Mine, and Only Mine), wasn't just a book; it was a map of his heart.
One rainy afternoon, a girl named Lingjel stood under the eaves of the library, shaking her translucent umbrella. She noticed his journal open to a page titled “The Girl with the Enamel Earrings.”
"That's a very specific title for a fiction story," she remarked, her voice soft like the breeze over the Kangla Fort.
Lanleiba looked up, startled. "It’s not entirely fiction. It’s about someone I saw once at the Ima Keithel, lost in the crowd of colorful Phaneks, looking for a specific shade of silk."
Lingjel smiled, reaching into her bag to pull out a matching pair of blue enamel earrings. "She wasn't looking for silk. She was looking for the weaver who taught her grandmother how to dream."
From that day on, “Eina Eigi” transformed. It became a collaborative dance of words. They met at the Sendra Hill Resort, watching the sunset turn the water into liquid gold, and at the quiet corners of University Road.
He wrote about the strength in her silence; she wrote about the poetry in his chaos. The collection grew into a series of short stories: “The Last Moirang Parva,” “Midnight at Sanjenthong,” and “The Orchid’s Whisper.”
As the final chapter was written, Lanleiba realized that "Eina Eigi" no longer referred to his personal possession of the stories. It referred to the world they had built together—a romantic reality that belonged only to the two of them, bound by the red threads of Manipuri tradition and modern love.
(translated as "Mine and Only Mine" or "Me and Mine") is a popular theme in contemporary Manipuri romantic fiction, often centering on the intense, possessive, and deeply emotional nature of love within the cultural context of Manipur.
If you are looking for a write-up for a collection under this title, here is a descriptive blurb: Eina Eigi: A Collection of Manipuri Romantic Stories

Eternal Longing (Nungshi Waris): Stories that deal with the bittersweet nature of "first loves" and the sacrifices made for family honor.
Modern Conflicts: Navigating long-distance relationships when one partner moves to a metro city like Delhi or Bangalore for work, a common reality for Manipuri youth.
Forbidden Love: Addressing the complexities of inter-community relationships and the bravery required to follow one's heart. The Impact on Local Literature
By focusing on "Manipuri Stories Eina Eigi," creators are ensuring that the Manipuri language remains vibrant and relevant to Gen Z and Millennials.
