Nico Simonscans New May 2026

We scraped comments from Reddit’s r/scanlation and their Discord to gauge the mood. The verdict? Overwhelmingly positive, with some constructive criticism.

Positive feedback:

"Finally, a group that respects the original art. The new redrawer Hakone is a magician. That double-page spread in Mikan no Uta chapter 1 was flawless." – u/scanlation_lurker

"The new site is so fast. I used to wait 30 seconds per page on mobile. Now it’s instant." – Discord user @yuri_addict

Criticism:

"I love the speed, but the new proofreader changes some character voices. The dialogue in the new chapter feels a bit too formal compared to the raw." – @manga_elitist nico simonscans new

The team has already responded, promising to adjust the localization style by Chapter 3.

For those familiar with the Simonscans archive, Nico’s previous work leaned heavily on high-contrast monochromes, grain-heavy textures, and a voyeuristic intimacy. The “new” material, however, sees a departure from pure grit. While the raw, unpolished energy remains, there’s an emerging fascination with cool, desaturated color palettes—muted teals, ash grays, and the occasional burnished orange.

The composition feels less candid and more constructed. Where earlier pieces captured fleeting moments, the new images possess a sculptural stillness. Nico seems to be interrogating the space between subject and environment, turning empty corridors and rain-streaked windows into active characters rather than passive backdrops.
