No technology is without its limitations. The NX Viewer, being a Windows-based application, inherits the security vulnerabilities of the underlying OS. If the host PC is not properly firewalled, patched, and isolated from corporate IT networks, it could become an entry point for malware or unauthorized access. Best practices dictate that NX Viewer PCs should be placed on an isolated OT (Operational Technology) network with strict VLAN segmentation.

Another challenge is latency sensitivity. While Ethernet is fast, it is not deterministic. For safety-critical applications (e.g., emergency stop monitoring), the NX Viewer should never replace hardwired safety circuits or dedicated safety PLCs. The Viewer is an informational and supervisory tool, not a safety device.

Additionally, the initial learning curve can be steep for electricians accustomed to ladder logic programming but unfamiliar with Windows-based HMI design, ActiveX controls, and scripting (often VBScript or C#). Panasonic has mitigated this with extensive template libraries and drag-and-drop widget designers, but a certain level of IT/OT convergence training is required.
