The operation is set to take place. However, this is not just a story of sacrifice; it is a story of betrayal.
Ranvijay, the gangster, has no intention of letting his brother Balli die. The plan was never to give the heart; it was a ruse to get Balli out of high-security prison and into a vulnerable transport van.
During the transfer to the hospital, Ranvijay’s gang attacks the police convoy. They free Balli, leaving Veer devastated. His son is still dying, and he has lost the criminal. Veer is suspended from the force for his complicity in the botched transfer, and his wife Naina is heartbroken, blaming him for trusting criminals.
Now, Veer is a man with nothing left to lose. He embarks on a personal war ("Jung") to hunt down Balli and Ranvijay. He needs Balli dead to retrieve his heart, but the law states he cannot kill a man for his organs. The criminals, however, have no such rules.
No Sanjay Dutt action film of the 90s was complete without a heart-pumping background score. Composer Viju Shah (of Tu Cheez Badi Hai fame) delivered a techno-drum masterpiece. The title track "Jung Jung" featuring Dutt in a leather jacket, grinding an axe, is visually ridiculous but cinematically powerful. Songs like "Tumse Milke" (the romantic track) provided the necessary emotional valley between the violent peaks.
The film is a high-stakes action thriller centered on a desperate race against time. It explores the lengths to which a family man will go to save his child, juxtaposed against the ruthlessness of a criminal willing to destroy innocent lives for profit.
Jung is not considered a classic in Sanjay Dutt’s filmography (which includes Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Sadak, and Agneepath). Instead, it is a guilty pleasure—a film that defines the loud, angry, and melodramatic action genre of its time.
For modern audiences, watching Jung is a nostalgic trip. It is available on various streaming platforms (often on YouTube via official channels or on services like ZEE5) and is regularly aired on Indian movie channels during their “90s Action” weekends.
Sanjay Dutt is far from retirement. He has recently shed his physique for movies like KGF: Chapter 2 (playing the villain Adheera) which was a massive pan-India hit. He also featured in Shamshera and has Welcome 3 on the horizon.
The Jung is now expanding from Bollywood to South Indian cinema. In KGF 2, his war with Rocky Bhai (Yash) is exactly the kind of massive-scale Jung his fans crave. Notably, he is also set to star in an untitled project with director Ram Gopal Varma again (the Company and Vaastav director), which is rumored to be a pure action Jung thriller.

However, Sahil’s condition deteriorates rapidly. With his son’s heartbeat fading and no other donor in sight, Veer is forced into a corner. He agrees to the deal, choosing his role as a father over his uniform.
This is where Sanjay Dutt redefined Jung. While not a violent action film, Lage Raho Munna Bhai introduces the concept of "Gandhigiri" – a non-violent war against corruption. Even here, Dutt fights a Jung – a moral one. This versatility set him apart from other action heroes.
Screenwriter Shabbir Boxwala wrote punchlines that were monosyllabic. In Jung, Dutt doesn’t deliver speeches; he spits bullets. His dialogue "Tumse na ho paayega" (You can’t do it) delivered while smoking a cigarette, is still quoted in gyms across India.
