The steam_emu.ini file is a configuration file used by Steam emulator patches (most commonly associated with the ColdClient or LumaEmu families of emulators).

Once the malicious DLL is executed, the game launches normally, masking the infection. In the background, the malware scrapes browser cookies, cryptocurrency wallet keys, and saved passwords from the user's computer. Because the user is interacting with "cracked" software, they often voluntarily disable their antivirus or add exceptions to their firewall, inviting the infection in.
