The story follows US Army Sergeant Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and his partner, Corporal Chris Vail (Jake Johnson), who, during a skirmish in Iraq, accidentally discover a secret tomb. Princess Ahmanet was the heir to a mighty Egyptian kingdom. However, after her father had a second son, she made a pact with the dark god Set, murdering her family. For her crime, she was mummified alive and buried under a lake of mercury. Once awakened, Ahmanet aims to possess Nick and turn him into the living embodiment of Set, bringing the apocalypse.

The movie features spectacular action sequences, including a plane crash scene filmed in zero-gravity (nicknamed the "crash-ography"), and a terrifyingly beautiful performance by Sofia Boutella.
