If you are a fan of Greek mythology specifically, consider playing Apollo Justice (different genre) or the Ryse: Son of Rome (which is on Xbox One, not 360, but features a similar Roman/Greek aesthetic).
If you owned an Xbox 360 in 2010 and craved the God of War formula (mythological hack-and-slash, quick-time events, huge bosses, rage mode), you weren’t completely out of luck. Several games tried to fill the Kratos-shaped void: xbox 360 games god of war
| Game | Developer | How It Mimics God of War | |------|-----------|--------------------------| | Dante’s Inferno (2010) | Visceral Games | Nearly a carbon copy: Christian hell instead of Greek mythology, a scythe instead of blades, and an identical “cross” button for quick-time finishers. EA even hired God of War II’s lead designer. | | Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2010) | MercurySteam | Slower, more exploration-based, but with colossal titan bosses and a light/shadow magic system replacing Spartan Rage. | | Ninja Gaiden II (2008) | Team Ninja | No QTEs, far harder, but equally gory and combo-focused. The “Obliteration Technique” is Kratos-level brutal. | | Bayonetta (2009) | PlatinumGames | Faster, more stylish, but shares the same genre DNA: weapon switching, dodging, and over-the-top climax moves. |
The closest of all: Dante’s Inferno was so similar that Sony reportedly considered legal action. But even that game couldn’t match the scale of God of War III’s opening battle against Poseidon.
If you see a listing on eBay for "God of War 3 - Xbox 360 Platinum Hits," it is a scam. It is always a burned disc, a custom sticker, or a confused seller. Stop searching for the impossible
But don’t be mad at the myth. Be glad we lived in an era where the competition was so fierce that players wished they could play the other guy’s exclusives. The Xbox 360 never got Kratos, but it got a generation of "Kratos-likes" that are worth revisiting today.
