Following the massive success of South Indian films in the Hindi belt, Mankatha found a new lease on life. iSayDub capitalized on this by hosting the unofficial Hindi dubbed version. For Hindi-speaking viewers, watching Ajith’s dubbed baritone deliver lines translated from Chennai slang provides a unique, albeit altered, viewing experience.
Mankatha was produced by Dayanidhi Azhagiri under the Cloud Nine Movies banner. The budget was approximately ₹45 crores (a significant sum for Tamil cinema in 2011). While the film recovered its investment thanks to overseas markets, the producers later admitted in interviews that the piracy leak cost them an estimated ₹5-7 crores in ancillary revenue (home video, satellite rights negotiation leverage, and non-theatrical screenings).
Most movies fade from piracy search trends a year after release. Mankatha is an exception. Due to its layered narrative and Ajith’s massive fan base, new generations of viewers constantly search for the film. When it isn’t available on a free OTT platform, they turn to Isaidub.
