Abu Muhammad al-Qasim al-Hariri (1054–1122 CE) was born in Basra, modern-day Iraq. Despite living during the twilight of the Abbasid Caliphate, al-Hariri produced a work that many scholars consider the unrivalled linguistic peak of Arabic prose.
